Fire destroys Homer City planing mill and nearby structures
A heavy gale fueled a blaze at Homer City destroying the Morris Betts planing mill and lumber sheds, plus the Daniel Brickley blacksmith shop. Fire began near 4 30 PM with wind driving sparks across the creek. the blacksmith shop burned completely, while nearby roofs caught fire but were largely saved. Damage runs into thousands, with the mill and sheds heavily insured though losses may exceed by about 3000 dollars. Origin is unclear but sparks from Guthrie Tuck plant are suspected.

George M. McKelvey a former resident of Blacklick Furnace killed himself at his home near Youngstown December 24 while ill with a long disease. He once attended Peters Ridge Academy and taught at Tomb schoolhouse years ago. Miss Nannie G Kaufman of Center township Tarentum former resident files $5,000 damage suit in the U S District Court of Pittsburgh against Dr J A Knowlton borough physician Dr Donnell and others. She alleges that on February 6 1914 Knowlton diagnosed her nephew Trewin Kaufman with smallpox and that Donnell quarantined the home causing financial loss to her millinery business.
