Quay supporters sweep Philadelphia primaries solidly

In Philadelphia on January 9, supporters of Senator Quay achieved a decisive victory in the Republican primaries. The Quay faction secured control of the city party organization and most city council seats, likely capturing all city delegates to the Republican national convention and nearly all to the state convention. The insurgent Martin Wanamaker alliance suffered a major setback as Porter shifted to Quay, strengthening the regular organization and signaling a shift in city politics and council majorities.
