Inauguration of County Officials Next Monday

A county government sweep will take place next Monday with eleven-year judge S. J. Telford replaced by J. N. Langham as judge and oath of office to be administered. New county officers and deputies will assume duties without public ceremonies as the board of County Commissioners has completed appointments except for the sealers of weights and measures.

Shakespeare Club Reunion Tailors Birthday Toasts

The Shakespeare Club of Indiana will celebrate its birthday with a Thursday evening reunion of current and former members hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sutton on South Sixth Street. County Bonds Redeemed by Retiring Board of Commissioners

Retiring county commissioners redeemed another $6,000 in county bonds, bringing their total redemptions to $26,960 of a $48,409 outstanding amount. They report an annual interest saving of about $1,200 and a state tax decrease, with about $21,400 in county bonds remaining. To cover $126,000 in poor bonds, they will hand to successors certificates of deposit totaling $96,000 with accrued interest, a roughly $60,000 increase during their term. Poor bonds cannot be redeemed until 1919.

Prosperity Is Expected From Coal Company Plans

Supt. Lafayette Tuck of the Homer City Coal Company announces a spring plan to build sufficient housing for workers on newly acquired land from Toar Ing Run Coal Company. The firm installs a large generator to modernize mines and aims to become a major independent operation. Output for the year is set to exceed by 40,100 tons. The company also advanced two weeks pay one week early and gave each employee a pair of gloves.

Death claims W W Brithart veteran jeweler at sixty eight

Two deaths Sunday in Homer City and nearby leave a town’s oldest jeweler and a longtime resident of Homer City among the dead. William Wellington Brithart 68 a veteran of the Civil War and a prominent local jeweler died after a short illness he had been in failing health for days. Emily Byers 87 a longtime Homer City resident died in her son S L Byers home Sunday morning. Funeral arrangements were set in Homer City and burial planned at Greenwood cemetery.

Mrs Devers of Blairsville Dies After Long Illness

Mrs John Jr Devers and Mrs Wilzabeth Devers wife of John H W Devers of Blairsville died Monday. She was admired for intellect and religious faith a Blairsville Seminary graduate and longtime church helper. Survived by husband a traveling salesman and former bank cashier. Funeral planned this afternoon at Blairsville with interment in nearby cemetery.

Blairsville coal leader Ralph B Smith dies at 44

Ralph B Smith, 44, prominent Blairsville coal operator and former Blairsville National Bank director, died yesterday after a month of illness following Princeton College graduation.
