The forty fifth annual Indiana County Teachers Institute opened Monday with sharp focus on education. Supt. Hammers arranged village township seating to track absences while Rev. Lewis Kay led opening exercises. Dr. Arnold Tompkins of Wilis University spoke on The Nature of the teaching Process, urging teachers to be authentic and to touch students’ lives. Dr. White of Columbus followed on School Discipline, stressing seven school virtues and motives. The evening featured the Till family in a music program at Library Hall to packed audiences. On Tuesday the hall hosted Cuba as Dr. Maltby spoke, using maps to illustrate the educational idea and the island’s context.

Reverend William Burrows Dead at 49 in Cookport
The Rev William Burrows pastor of the Methodist Protestant church at Cookport died Friday at about 4:00 am from neuralgia of the heart after a four day illness. He was born May 12 1847 and married Annie Kerr on June 2 1967. He had served churches in Bakerstown Charter Oak Cookport and other communities, leaving the Cookport church strong in membership. Funeral services Sunday afternoon at the church were conducted by several ministers and the remains were laid in the churchyard.
