Local notes report business at Brown Coal Company plant and improving influenza cases. Many residents travel to Pittsburgh or stay with relatives, while others plan winter visits and moves. Sabbath services resume at Abenezer and families return from visits to Brackenridge Canfield and Canute areas.
Sunday school planned at 10:00 in both churches with preaching at 11:00 at the Baptist church led by Rev. M. M. Smith next Sunday. Local residents and visitors are noted in attendance and various family and travel updates are included, with juror duty and hospital rest mentioned among several households.
Alt Willet and Mrs. John Little from near Chambersville visited relatives over Sunday. Mr and Mrs V Kepple of Advance with daughter Miurjorie saw friends here last week. Mrs Carl Wairman called on Mrs George Rye. Mrs Larry Leanor visits Clyde in Indiana. Mrs H P McGoy and son Mean returned home after Kansas City Pittsburgh visit. Jacob Learn called to bedside of father Joseph Kirkpatrick who is critical. Paul Ferguson, formerly in training at Camptee, returned home. Red Cross Auxiliary held meeting and entertainment at Marlin schoolhouse last week.
Harl Reithmiller made a business trip to Barnesboro last week. Ira Douglass and family are getting along as well as can be expected. Dennis Myers is ill. Mr. and Mrs. John Walker visited their son-in-law and daughter. Liogil Murnau is employed at Cherry Tree. Grave Webster visited her sister Mrs. Earl Reithmiller last week. William Madden moved from here to Hastings. Ray Lownlon is ill with the flu. Mrs. M. H. Brithart returned home after visiting her parents.
The American Red Cross in France plans a Christmas celebration in hospitals and recreation huts for American troops. Each wounded or sick soldier will receive two socks filled with fruits nuts crundy and smokes plus a handkerchief and a card detailing Red Cross services. Distribution will involve nurses and enlisted men with Christmas postcards for writing home. The event includes a Christmas dinner musical program and general song.
Red Cross chapters nationwide prepare to combat a Spanish influenza recurrence and fund tuberculosis relief. Washington headquarters urges public education on symptoms and early care, while seized Christmas seal sales shift to Red Cross Tuberculosis Roll Call December 16 to 28.
