Jail Delivery Plot Foiled By Sheriff At County Jail

Sheriff John M. Malcolm discovered a jail break plan by prisoners at the county jail when a shirt hung on a cell tier concealed a wall hole eight by ten inches. Prisoners had pried bars with a stair post lever and aimed to escape into the main corridor to overpower the night guard and seize keys to open the jail door. Malcolm noted the scheme would likely fail given his nightly armed rounds. The article also reports on Federal raids on West Philadelphia Street for liquor and Armstrong Grange activities with schedule details and names of individuals involved.
