Land Turtle Forty Years Old at Parkwood
Co. W. W. Anthony, Highland Vineyard proprietor, Parkwood, found a land turtle on May 30 1867 with initials and a date on its shell. In 1879 he again saw the same reptile bearing the carved marks, and on August 5 this year another shell inscription matched. He plans to add the Indiana county centennial date and keep the turtle to visit descendants. The creature is large, possibly 25 to 30 years old when first found, and over 50 years old now, believed to bring luck and protect vines.
