Unusual War Mule Dies at Homer City Farm
A Civil War era army mule, famed for kicking a man at a postwar sale, died recently at Liveryman Uber’s farm in Homer City. The aged mule, part of a group brought to Indiana County’s state experimental farm in 1865, served faithfully until shortly before its death. The Pittsburg Chronicle Telegraph lauded the creature’s long life and humble service, noting it lived through vast historical upheavals and earned a quiet tribute rather than a public monument.
