Governor Warns of Highway Death Toll Rising

The governor cites that six people die daily and one accident occurs every twelve minutes on Pennsylvania roads since 1928. He notes 250,000 accidents, 11,300 deaths, 226,000 injuries, and $31 million in property damage, with 52,000 accidents and 2,000 deaths projected for this year if trends continue. He credits the Financial Responsibility Act and compulsory vehicle inspections for safety gains but faults driver carelessness, especially pedestrians, while urging broader public adherence to safer behavior.
