Modern Paintings Exhibit At Carnegie Institute Opens Oct 18
Preparations are underway for the 1934 Carnegie International Exhibition of modern paintings in Pittsburgh. The 12 European nations represented include Great Britain France Italy Spain Germany USSR Norway Sweden Poland Belgium and Holland. 1366 prints 263 from Europe and 103 from the United States. Fifty two artists debut in Carnegie International, indicating a shift in the art world. The jury of award chaired by Homer Saint-Gaudens will name first prize 1500 second 1000 third 600 and a 300 prize from the Garden Club of Allegheny County for the best garden or flower painting. Prizes announced Founders Day at Carnegie Music Hall October 18. European paintings shown at Baltimore and San Francisco after Pittsburgh. Exhibits open daily 10 am to 10 pm and Sundays 2 to 6 pm.
