In Youngstown Ohio on September 29 Donald Unies and Tony Antoft, laborers at No 2 Mill of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co, were engulfed by white hot metal as a glopper fell from a furnace entrance. Rescuers saved them minutes later, but both suffered near fatal burns as the molten metal filled the pit and covered their lower bodies in a miraculous escape from worse injuries.
