Harrisburg reports the State Highways Department will open bids on Friday September 30 for a new toll bridge over the Allegheny River at Tarentum. The project features a continuous steel deck truss and J-beam viaduct with five truss spans and 24 I-beam spans plus 140 miles of reinforced concrete approaches and ramps in Tarentum and New Kensington. State funds plus tolls, once paid, will cover maintenance and salaries. the total state contribution was increased from 2 million to 3 million in 1947 and later to 4.5 million as needs grew.

Boy Dies in Auto Fire in Canonsburg
One boy aged three, Clarence Henry Scott, was killed when flames destroyed an old car in which he and two companions played. Teddy Malesky, five, and Bobby Tar brought, three, both of Southview, suffered minor burns after finding matches in the car as the upholstery ignited.
