Fog slowed the Santa Barbara blaze that began Tuesday and raged along a 20 mile front in the Santa Ynez range. Firemen reported 780 homes and major structures destroyed with 3.5 million dollars in damage. One man was killed. 2000 firefighters battled the flames as winds shifted and humidity rose.
Audubon Pennsylvania AP Sen Hugh Scott campaigns for re election proposes a single federal Office of Community Development to handle urbanization issues. He argues this office would meet growing urban complexities while not abandoning suburbs housing half the urban population and opposes Genevieve Blatt.
District 50 of the United Mine Workers endorsed the Johnson Humphrey ticket for the November election. Elwood S. Moffett said the executive board acted on behalf of 215,000 members in 42 states, marking the first time the affiliate has publicly favored a president and vice president.
The Warren Commission concludes Kennedy's assassination with an 800 page report to be published at 5 30 p m EST Sunday. GPO prints 50 000 copies for home use while USIA distributes 25 000 pamphlets in 107 countries in 37 languages. Copies go on sale Monday at 8 30 a m EDT.
Rep. William G. Buchanan of Indiana says he will introduce 1965 legislation to authorize a 1.25 million dollar appropriation for a dam at Yellow Creek Park Indiana County. A Harrisburg survey by Gannett Fleming recommends a dam site, aiding a 700 acre lake as land purchases continue for the park near the Boy Scout camp.

In Detroit several hours of rest were taken by UAW and GM negotiators with little progress reported as 1965 GM auto production remained halted. More than a quarter of a million UAW workers stayed home on strike while talks paused for rest. Walter Reuther indicated both sides agreed on needing a couple of hours of sleep before resuming negotiations.

The administration’s economic development bill for the Appalachian region won Senate approval 45 to 13 and now moves to a wary House. House Republicans pledge a tough fight with Southern Democratic support hoped for, as Byrd and Robertson oppose in the Senate.
Western Electric Co. secured a 309 million dollar Army contract to accelerate the Nike X antimissile system. Work will take place at its Allentown Pennsylvania plant and other plants in Burlington and Winston-Salem. The award is among Nike X's largest contracts and adds to nearly two billion spent on antimissile development since 1957.
