Ring Lardner dies at 48 after long illness
Ring W. Lardner humorist and noted short story writer died at his East Hampton Long Island home after a prolonged illness. He was 48 and had battled tuberculosis since 1923 and heart disease worsened by ongoing writing. Survived by widow Ellis Abbott and four sons including David Lardner. He had worked through illness, contributing to a weekly publication from his hospital bed.

Highway Work Compensation Negotiated by County Officials
By agreement between the Executive Board of the Workers' Federation and Miss Evans of the Indiana County Emergency Relief Board an immediate effort will be made to secure an adjustment of the work relief compensation and the rate of payment for work on state highways. Mrs. Pearl Smith, niece of W. B. Pattigan, died at 9:54 a m at 965 Church street after a prolonged illness. Funeral plans wait for brothers arriving from the East. Thomas J. Gibson, former Maryland school music superintendent and Elderton native, died suddenly in Baltimore on Saturday. He was connected to the Fiscus family and L. G. Clark. A 50-year-old Iselin man and his 47-year-old companion were seriously injured when Romagn's car struck a tree on the William Penn Highway near Export, Westmoreland County. Authorities said the driver was blinded by another vehicle’s headlights. both men were admitted to Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg around 4:30 a.m. with crushed chests and severe lacerations and abrasions.

George Machine Gun Kelly, sought in the $200000 Urschel kidnapping of Oklahoma City oilman Charles F Urschel, was arrested today with his wife Kathryn and two companions J R Tiehenor and B E Travis. DOJ operatives surrounded a residence and rammed the door after Kelly appeared with a pistol. he surrendered without resistance amid threats linked to the Urschel case and other defendants.

Three Injured in Indiana-Clymer Road Collision
Three persons were injured when the automobile they aided on the Indiana Clymer road Saturday evening collided with a bridge abutment near the Clymer mine of the C B C Corporation. Driver Steve Nagg suffered severe head cuts and hand lacerations. Miss Ellen Puro sustained a nose fracture facial cuts and a left eye contusion. Joseph Nage and Miss Margaret Puro had only minor cuts and bruises.
