Harrisburg Sept 26 The second murder charge against Sam Crane former Major League shortstop will not be pressed at this term of court District Attorney Robert T Fox said Crane was found guilty of second degree murder for killing Della Lyter and is still indicted for killing John T Oren Kreak a rival who was slain while warding Crane's shots in the Brin Hotel barroom The judge instructed the jury to return a second degree verdict carrying ten to twenty years in Eastern Penitentiary if Crane was in a drunken stupor on August 3
Alex Stewart aged 65 Burgess of Emsworth died at 6 this morning from carbon monoxide fumes after first aid workers battled to save him for five hours. Found unconscious in his nephew's garage at midnight the alarm was raised by the nephew when Stewart failed to return. Stewart was secretary of the Stewart Oil and Gas Company and a prominent figure in Emsworth Borough civic and political affairs.
In New York on September 26, the Black Hand reign of terror claimed a second victim. Girolamo Casciola, 40, a wealthy immigrant, was killed as the latest target in the extortion campaign. Investigators described a pattern of threats and coerced payoffs tied to the secretive Black Hand group.
