The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced a hunter safety course sponsored by the Rochester Mills Sportsman's Club on Saturday September 23 starting at 9 am. It will be held at the club’s clubhouse about two and a half miles northwest of Rochester Mills on Legislative Route 099. For more information call Jim Leasure at 286-9831.
Avonmore in Westmoreland County hosts a drug exhibit at the Avonmore Jubilee from Friday through Sunday September 22 to 24. The District Attorney Office and Pennsylvania State Police staff will run a booth with color drug photographs, an actual drug display case, a drug film, and information on enforcement. A bulletin board shows youth activities with police, including book drives for a prison library, Mock Trials, and field work with various agencies. Drug identification charts and Back Law Enforcement bumper stickers will be distributed.
Local coordinators with the Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children announce a Ride a Bike for the Retarded Day on Sunday October 1 in Indiana at Regency Mall lot from 1 to 5 pm. A Brookville meeting announced a 59,880 state-funded final financing check toward a 102,000 total cost, with federal and borough funds covering the rest. Union Fidelity Life Insurance Co of Philadelphia filed in Commonwealth Court seeking a preliminary injunction against enforcement of a regulation requiring 30 day prepublication filing for mail order insurance ads. The suit claims lack of statutory authority and constitutional violations of free speech and press.
