The 988 19 to 28 year olds hold 1-A status, while 88 prep for Friday induction with no marriages or World War II veterans among them. Savings Insurance Doubled Coverage for Savings Accounts
The First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Indiana announced federal insurance coverage now up to 10000 for all savings accounts. Uniontown Pennsylvania report on a wartime pause in a strike by United Construction Workers affiliated with United Mine Workers. 1400 beehive coke ovens and a dozen coal mines halted as truck drivers demanded higher pay per mile. CAB Seeks More Information On Disaster Crash
The Civil Aeronautics Board left the door open for more information on the Labor Day airliner crash near Utica New York. Kenneth Sonner testified the left engine showed evidence of broken parts while running and a laboratory inspection found severe internal damage. Chief Pilot Robert Hancock said he saw pieces drop from the plane from an altitude of 50 feet. The DC-3 carried 24 people and crashed into a pasture a mile from the Oneida County Airport, killing the pilot and others. The hearing recessed indefinitely and remains open for new pertinent information.

Hammer Incident Triggers Family Court Probation
In Hull Eng on September a2 Drew George Wood threw tea at his wife and smashed eggs while threatening to break up the radio. He was restrained as Mrs Wood summoned their son George who fetched a hammer and struck his father thrice. The court placed Mrs Wood on probation for a year with a warning about avoiding harm to their child.
