Pittsburgh mayor warns the municipal primary may be invalid due to widespread voting machine failures and confusion across districts. Judges seek county action as officials consider delaying the vote while large turnout surges in the state.
Washington reports that American recognition of Russia and resumption of normal relations are expected about the first of the year. The administration, in power since March, has cleared diplomatic underbrush and plans to appoint a mixed claims commission to settle debts and claims, as in prior peace arrangements with Germany and Mexico.
The Rev Harvey L Gaston 47 minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Commodore died after complications following an operation at Indiana Hospital. Born June 28 1886 in Camden WV he served in Jollytown Greene County before Commodore. He is survived by his widow Love C Gaston and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Monday evening at 6 80 o clock in Robinson Funeral Home conducted by Rev John A McCamey.
Cleveland airmail pilot Harold Neff, 25, survived a forced landing south of the village of Leoni. He was found by three boys in the wreck of his plane with a broken leg and other injuries after disappearing Saturday while flying from Toledo to Cleveland. He wrapped himself in his parachute to endure the night and had misread his radio beacon.

Named were Mrs. Grete Segner minority inspector No 7 White township Blaine Wright majority inspector No 2 Canae township J L Davis minority inspector Cherry Tree boroughs A B Huston minority inspector No 2 Blacklick township J Clair Multley custodian of ballot boxes No 2 Pine Township and Thornton Dias custodian of ballot boxes No 8 Buffington township.

Judge J N Langham yesterday sentenced 13 who pled guilty and five convicted at last week's criminal court session. Some were ordered to the Allegheny county workhouse or county jail. Several defendants received suspended sentences with cost payments. Others faced fines or probation on various charges including larceny of copper wire, obstructing a process, turbine blade theft, assault and battery, and morality charges. An entry of nolle prosequi was ordered in two cases.
Five gunmen attempted to kidnap Milton G. Newman wealthy banker in Peoria overnight but fled after his wife shouted for help and called police. Newman said he had no threats or warning of a kidnapping.

The Governor's Cup will be decided this week at the local golf course with an 86 hole straight medal format. Players may complete 36 holes in any order between September 20 and 24. William E. Pierce last won the cup in 1931. no tournament was played last year.

Walter J. Stahl of Angola N Y died at Buffalo City Hospital after a car wreck caused the vehicle to skid and overturn into a ditch. He was pinned, rescued by Boy Scouts, and died from fatal burns. Born January 22 1908 in Latrobe he was a plasterer for George E Hudson Company at Batavia. Survived by father John E Stahl four brothers Alfred Harry John and Howard and two sisters Mrs Paul Ewing and Mrs H B Strickland. Funeral in Prudden's Funeral Home Lockport with burial there.

In Chicago on September 19 a new artificial fever treatment was tried to awaken Patricia McGuire, who has been comatose since February 16, 1932. Dr Eugene Traut leads the procedure using a hyperpyrexia device to raise body temperature gradually, with electrodes on her wrists to monitor fever levels. Previous methods including blood transfusions and UV therapy failed to revive her.
In New York federal court Louis Mead Treadwell opens the case accusing Pennsylvania Senator James J. Davis of conspiring to operate an illegal lottery through the Loyal Order of Moose. The juror issue from 1930 and 1931 indictments is dropped as the trial begins with Miller as co defendant.
A fire at Pier 2 in Halifax causes extensive damage to a concrete dock shed, with initial estimates placing losses around 300000 and possibly rising to 1900000 as Halifax’s fire apparatus fought the blaze from early morning. Passengers aboard ships watched from rails and staterooms as crews battled the flames. The origin of the fire remains undetermined and the blaze continued several hours after it began.

Washington reports the government moved quickly to set up the coal industry code machinery as the major and minor boards take shape. Eleven appointees will serve on the code authority boards with five divisions and local bodies to enforce wage, hour, and price provisions before the code takes effect October 2. Recovery Chief Hugh S. Johnson expects prices to rise once mining under the code begins, potentially by several dollars per ton.
Burglars broke into Indiana Sales and Service Compugarge at Philadelphia and Eleventh streets last night. They shattered a window, ransacked the office, scattered papers, and left photographs and possible fingerprints to be analyzed by police.
