President Nixon expands reelection push by courting Italian American and Catholic groups. He made a surprise stop at an Italian-American picnic and toured a Catholic sponsored elderly home, signaling an effort to pry Democratic strongholds open.
Israelis pushed 7 miles into Lebanon amid clashes near Beit Yahoun. Rebels fired on armored units around Juwayya as tanks and jets hit suspected guerrilla positions. In the U S territory, President Nixon attended Italian Fall Festival events in Mitchellville praising Italian Americans and outlining campaign plans for October.
Pennsylvania Bureau of Employment Security supervised by Mr. Jack Murphy has operated since the disaster.
