State police hunt trio after Kane shooting of patrolman
In Kane Pennsylvania three men in a small Ohio plate coupe shot at State Patrolman Richard Baxter wounding him in the left arm. Baxter was taken to Kane Community Hospital in serious condition. Police from Smethport said Baxter was not on special duty and may have stopped the car for a minor infraction as the suspects fled toward Bradford and the New York state line.

Bandits Rob Couple in Broken Road Ambush
On a Saltshure highway today three armed robbers in an auto stopped a buggy driven by Jack Bale and his wife from Sallalurs. They were robbed of $13 after the horse was forced off the road. The bandits left saying they would not worry about pursuit. Two other couples in autos were robbed, totaling $15 and two rings were taken.

In San Jose on September 18 a death sentence loomed for David A. Lamson after a four week murder trial. Sheriff Emig ordered a “death by own action guard” to watch Lamson closely while awaiting a judge to pronounce the sentence.
