Rev William T B McCauley of Third Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati criticizes John D Rockefeller saying he rose without politics or rich friends, likening him to a genius in the game of freeze out. The sermon praises Rockefeller’s restraint but accuses him of a broader moral flaw, relying on knockout financial moves rather than virtue.
Dr Toyorich Tyengar argues Japanese society resisted certain Western imports. He cites saloons trusts strikes circuses and reactions to modern dress while noting gains in food tastes language limitations and a push toward Western games and beer culture amid cultural exchange.
Mr J Blair Button is a business visitor to Hast Mahoning townstlp today. Mr Guy Davia of Blairaville was an Indiana visitor on Saturday and Sunday. Mrs David Hall of Annapolis authion Md is a guest of Mr and Mrs James Blair. Roy McLaughlins of Haat Bud Pittabarg and Mr Dahony of Homewood visited at M W McLaughlin's last week. Miss Flo Smittsn and Hila Allison of Homewood Pa returned home today after a visit at M W McLaughlin's on Grant. Miss Clara and Anna Horston were guests of Ming Bell Brown during fair week and returned to Latrobe city this morning. Messrs Frank Kyle and Fred Sohnston and Dr Lowman, who came to Tridiana on Wednesday in a large automobile, returned to their homes in Pittsburg on Saturday.
The Murry and Mackey Co presented Maderella at Library Hall on Saturday afternoon and drew a fair sized audience, mainly children, who delighted in the pretty play Across the Desert. The melodrama of frontier life offered heroic action and comedy, well staged by the notable company despite a smaller audience than the evening performances.
James Fleming of Fenn Ray died at home Sunday evening age about 42 after a five year invalid condition. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Peon Run graveyard. An infant daughter of Den Tobias of Graceton died of tuberculosis Friday aged about two. funeral was Sunday led by Rev. McUllough with interment at Homer City cemetery.
New York dispatch reports the identification of Augusta Pfeiffer, 18, found murdered under the Vaunted Oak near Pelham Road. The case centers on her quarrel with her mother, a meeting with Girard, and discovery of his clothing as evidence. Coroner O Muirrin notes movements traced to within feet of the murder site.
The schooner Vo HH Kerehum burned off Bavictandsland, Lake Superior, drowning nine crew members as they tried to abandon ship. Sailor Ambrew Aderson died after trying to rescue a woman carried away by heavy seas. A separate street collision left Noble Miller and Quortis Elkin with minor injuries. Swank & Son's Grocery advertises delivery and store plans at Witth and Oak streets.
At Yoongwood county fair last Friday three men were struck on the race track during the second heat of the Farmers' row race. Mel Zimmerman drove a horse that plowed through the outer crowd, injuring John Donovan of Alleghany city, Raymond Kiley of Heola, and John McGilfin of Turtle Creek. Donovan was unconscious and had ribs broken and internal injuries. Kiley and McGilfin were treated at a nearby stand. Doctors attended Donovan at the hospital. Public concern grows over track crowding and calls for better barriers and policing.
