Bus Seath Crossing Crash Kills Four Pupils In Monessen
A passenger bus carrying about 55 people including around 20 students was struck from the rear by a freight train near Collinsburg and dragged 30 feet. Four students died and 44 were injured, 13 seriously. Names identified include Janice Vere, 17, Dorothy Beckinger, 14, and Gail Kogniaka, 16. Injured were treated at Mercy, Frick Memorial, Memorial Monongahela, McKeesport, Charleroi and Monessen hospitals. The bus was leased by Rostraver Township Schools from Harry Doernte of West Newton.
