Gasoline Found Under Limestone in Cumberland County
In Mechanicsburg Cumberland County Pennsylvania an underground gasoline plume under limestone is being pumped from nine oil company tank farms. About 80 to 100 thousand gallons have been removed with plans to drill and drain the affected area while avoiding fire danger and reducing groundwater contamination. The department of environmental health and a geology task force are overseeing the operation as they attempt to quantify remaining pumped volumes and address priority steps.
