Philadelphia September 18 The third great congress of leaders for thought in the modern world drew representatives from 400 colleges universities and learned societies to the University of Pennsylvania for a week long celebration of its 200th anniversary. The program features discussions on Americas role in world crises and human qualities for a successful society and ends with President Roosevelt and Sir Lyman Duff receiving honorary degrees. Former President Hoover speaks at an economic symposium and is also to be honored.

Rayburn Bankhead, elected to the House in 1913 at age 31 and a lawyer and stock farmer, was a close ally of Vice President Garner and helped Garner win the 1932 nomination for Roosevelt. Accidents On Route 119 Near Homer City Injure Five
Five people were injured in separate Route 119 crashes near Homer City. William Kinter, 18, and Paul Bocz, 50, were admitted to Indiana Hospital with fractures after a collision involving a delivery truck.
