Cadillac division of General Motors recalls 37 000 Cadillacs for axle defects that could affect braking. About 5 000 cars have overly long rear axles. Owners will be notified within a week to 10 days to bring in the autos, all from the end of the 1972 model year.
Denise Sprayson of Maxwell Ontario survived five days pinned beneath a wrecked car while her husband and two friends lay nearby. Coroner Dr G L Stewart said her wounds were severe and she endured rain heat and cold. She was found Sunday by Rexdale resident Paul Smeil after the dog alerted him.

The Marion Center Area Board of Education approved a revised 1972-73 calendar including a Sept 5 teacher day and Sept 6 first day of school with holidays and vacations noted. The board also approved substitute teacher lists, monthly teacher workshops, coal and fuel oil bid ads, adult classes, GED classes, and two student teachers per four teachers in open classroom. Silver Passes for residents 65 and over will continue for free admission to school events. Temporary enrollment shows 1202 elementary and 1027 secondary students. The project is slightly behind schedule. next meeting is Oct 9.
Rome AP report says ten European Common Market finance ministers agreed to form a European Monetary Fund as a forerunner to a central bank. Foreign ministers planned united action against terrorism after Munich and Brussels incidents, avoiding blame on any government. The fund will be a coordinating organ managed by central banks, with a Common Market summit likely October 19 in Paris.

A Philadelphia man imprisoned three years for a wrongful rape conviction would receive 40 000 in compensation under a House bill approved 157 to 13. The measure, sponsored by Rep James D Barber of Philadelphia, was first introduced three years ago.
A general alarm fire at 10 43 this morning damaged part of Master Cleaners and Dyers of Indiana at Burns and Cherry Avenues near its main plant. The rug and furniture cleaning department and a truck garage were affected. owner Bob DeGaetano said the building itself and the rug area appeared largely undamaged.

U S soldier Pvt Lawrence R Tanner 20 of Orange Texas surrendered to military police after abducting four fellow soldiers and taking one hostage to a house near Tan Son Nhut Air Base. He armed with an M16 and pistol and drove the group 12 miles from Long Binh to Saigon. None were hurt.
