Georgia Governor Lester Maddox told a Pittsburgh audience he would not join George Wallace on a third party presidential bid. He argued Wallace needs a running mate with Northern appeal and warned major party candidates offer similar laws and policies. Maddox spoke at an American Opinion Forum meeting in Allegheny County, noting it is now more respectable to be a conservative.
