The Noon Market Report lists percentage changes for numerous U S industrials and consumer firms. Highlights include Alcoa 54 percent, Ford Motor 66 percent, General Electric 66 percent, DuPont 18 percent, and IBM near 39 percent, with many firms showing modest gains or losses in a volatile session.
Boeing Co. announced a signed agreement to sell 10 Boeing 707 jetliners to mainland China, the largest heavy equipment sale to China since trade barriers fell. The deal, worth about 150 million dollars, was signed in Peking after five months of negotiations.
Joseph Chip Yablonski, son of slain candidate Joseph Yablonski, accused United Mine Workers leaders of stealing union funds during a rally with Harry Patrick in Southeast High School, Crawford County. Patrick camps for secretary treasurer on the Reform Movement ticket opposing Boyle. About 75 miners attended as Yablonski vowed to finish his father’s 1969 campaign work.
Ed Mund Chaput caught a three foot sand shark on Sunday and brought it home to show neighbors. The dead shark’s body moved and five baby sharks appeared on the driveway. He turned them over to the New England Aquarium in Boston, but an official said the seven inch sharks had little chance of survival due to being premature.
Lawmakers were recalled for a nine day session by Shapp to handle flood bills and pay raises for officials. Denenberg calls the no fault bill phony as trial lawyers push his anti consumer measure. Finley cites 27 or 28 votes for Shapp bill though House passage seems unlikely. Lamb and Fineman oppose the no fault bill and back Hawkins' plan, creating unclear outcomes.

Terry Anne Meeuwsen of Wisconsin was crowned Miss America 1973 after ten semi finalists appeared on stage. The runner up lineup included Indiana Texas Pennsylvania and North Carolina with final awards distributing 10000 to Miss America 8000 to first runner up and progressively smaller sums to other finalists and semi finalists.
The U S veto blocked a proposed UN resolution urging immediate cessation of military actions and terrorism. Nine permanent members, including Britain France and the Soviet Union, backed or vetoed various amendments as China and the U S cast pivotal votes. Bush proposed a separate measure condemning the Munich terrorist attack but did not force a vote.
The Israeli Supreme Court ruled today that Meyer Lansky has strong links to U S and organized crime and denied his appeal for citizenship. It left open expulsion but offered him a travel document and noted he remains stateless unless he returns to the United States where he faces gambling-related indictments.
A three year old Nanty Glo boy named Steven Levegan was critically injured Sunday when a baseball bat slipped from another boy’s hand and struck him on the head. He is hospitalized in Johnstown’s Memorial Hospital in the intensive care unit with a fractured skull and is listed in critical condition. He was watching the game when the accident occurred.

A 400 to 500 pound land mine exploded under a British armored car near Dungannon Belfast area killing three soldiers and wounding four more, one critically. Five men charged with murdering eight people during a Fountain Valley Golf Course robbery remain at large while two other defendants are jailed on St Thomas. Bench warrants were issued for the fugitives by U.S. District Judge Warren H. Young. Authorities identify five as Warren Ballentine Ismael Labeet Raphael Joseph and two aliases Sanchez and Pepe or Pablo. Citizens urged to report suspicious activity to police and the FBI.
Daniel Hannan of United Steelworkers Local 1557 warns a federal exemption may keep US Steel Clairton Coke Works from meeting the 1975 compliance date. A consent decree commits to cut pollution by 1977 with major upgrades, while EPA regional director Edward Furia says no commitment and no legal basis for one.
Three Americans believed to have served with the Viet Cong for at least two years are identified by code names Pork Chop Salt and Pepper. They are thought deserters or defectors, active in Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh provinces, involved in hijackings and raids but not in major battles. Villagers report they are escorted as proof of the Viet Cong cause.
