Spectacular air races end with casualty at Mines Field
At Mines Field the National Air Races featured the New York to Los Angeles Air Derby finish with Naval Lieutenant G B Sasselman first casualty as his scout plane crashed at 160 miles an hour. He was trapped in the cockpit and freed after rescuers cut clear metal. He suffered head lacerations though full injuries remain undetermined. Lieutenant Decker won the Around-the-World Memorial race covering 60 miles in 28 minutes 23 seconds. Parachutist George Brink jumped 1600 feet before his parachute opened, one of three who leapt from the same plane. Navy and Army bombing planes performed dramatic demonstrations for large crowds.

Eight injured in train crash in Indianapolis
In Indianapolis on September 10 a inbound Big Four passenger train collided with a freight train. Engineer E. Haldeman of Bellefonte Ohio said rear red lights were not displayed on the freight cars. Injured include Joites of Cleveland with a fractured right arm Ray Neff of Buffalo with eye and nose injuries and B R Saebe of Mechanicsburg with a wrenched back. The passenger train was bound for St Louis from Cleveland.
