First Class planes lead in transcontinental air derby
The Los Angeles Air Derby began with Class planes taking off at Roosevelt Field at 11 26 30 A M. In Columbus John Livingston landed at Norton Field at 10 49 30 leading Class B racers from New York to Los Angeles. Earl Rowland of Wichita started the Class A leg from Fort Worth at 6 20 A M while Robert Dake followed at 6 21 A M. Twenty five planes remained in Class A with two retirements from Kansas City yesterday. The top ten Class A times from New York to Fort Worth ranged from 14 hours 14 minutes to 18 hours 40 minutes.
