Panama City September 6 11N8 A major landslide on the east side of the Culebra Cut in the Panama Canal threatened to block ship movements between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The hillside was moving toward the canal at an estimated rate of 16 feet daily. Three dredges and overtime crews were brought to the scene to prevent the canal from becoming filled.

A 10 year old girl Christina Chenoga of Salzeburg R D 1 died from internal injuries after a car driven by her brother Frank Chenoga jr 19 lost control on the West Lebanon Iselin road Young township. Four other youths were injured including a sister Velia Chenoga 12 with a fractured leg Melio Pratick 18 with head and body injuries Louis Chenoga 16 with leg bruises and driver Frank Chenoga jr uninjured. The car veered off the road after a rear tire blew out and plunged into a barn then rolled down the embankment. The accident occurred about 5 45 p m Saturday.

John M. Rankin a two year old Washington township farmer died by his own hand in his Plumville area home this morning. Coroner KF W St Clair reported Rankin shot himself twice in the chest after family troubles tied to health. His daughter in law Roxie Rankin found the body. his wife died five months prior and despondency over health was given as the cause. The coroner's verdict ruled death by own action.

Violet Shetler a 12 year old of Clymer was seriously hurt when she ran into the rear of a car on Route 480 near Clymer. J M Dick 58 of Clymer drove the vehicle. Shetler suffered fractures in both legs and was taken to Indiana Hospital in favorable condition. Witnesses say she crossed the road as the car passed.

Kidnapping Suspect Faces Prosecution Decision
CLEARFIELD Pennsylvania September 6 Garret Schenck a 48 year old New Jersey fish peddler said he was deciding whether to swear out a warrant against J J Devine accused of kidnapping him last June at Hopewell N J and holding him for ten days to gain information about the Lindbergh baby case. He was held incommunicado in cabins in Clearfield and Somerset counties until Johnstown Mayor Eddie McCloskey helped secure his rescue and is in the custody of the district attorney awaiting further action.
