SAN FRANCISCO Sept 4 Sixteen thousand oil workers in nine California refineries walked off at midnight in a wage dispute with the industry. Pickets ringed plants from Richmond to Long Beach, threatening a gasoline shortage across California Washington Oregon Nevada and Arizona within days. The strike ends with a 12 ½ cent hourly offer from the industry after the union sought 21 cents then 30 cents. Maintenance crews stay on to shut plants orderly, with an estimated 36 hours to complete the shutdowns.

Police Nab Two More Holdup Men After Two-Week Search
County Detective James Washington and Indiana Police Department officers arrested two Pittsburgh men, William Nardozi and Reynold Phillips, in a Pittsburgh hotel room on yesterday morning for the Aug. 18 hold up and beating of 18 year old Paul Fleming of Indiana. They were brought to Indiana County Jail along with two previously arrested suspects, Carl Williamson and Donald Fusilli, as part of the same case. The victim was robbed of 45 dollars near a local hotel in Indiana after being beaten and thrown from a moving car.

Livermore Man Fatally Injured in Mishap
