Ensilage gas kills three in Maryland silo mishap
In Poplar Springs Maryland on September 4 a silage gas leak from fermenting cattle feed suffocated a mother 37 and her nine year old daughter and the foster daughter Anna Richards 19 was also killed. Two men narrowly escaped as others tried to rescue them. The tragedy began when Anna fell into an underground ice house converted to a silo. Mary Line 19 and Norman Becraft helped, but the gas overwhelmed them. Neighbors aided and ropes were used to recover the bodies.
