Crowds attend the 1964 Indiana County Fair opening night horse show by the Trail Riders Association as nine teen area high school bands perform later. A full grandstand is anticipated for Band Night with 19 groups. Tomorrow features a free musical program headlined by the Singing Callicoats and Jerry the television chimp plus Miss Jessie Griffiths at the organ. The Grand Cavalcade parades tomorrow evening and fireworks Thursday close the events. Winners announced include Pet Pony Elaine Cribbs and Western Pony Regina Gorgon among others.

Alvin York, WWI Hero, Dies in Tennessee at 76
Alvin C. York, famed World War I doughboy and Medal of Honor recipient, died in Nashville at 10 40 a m. He was 76 and had suffered illnesses for a decade. York, a Tennessee hill country native, reportedly killed 25 Germans and captured 132 in a single Argonne Forest action in 1918. He entered Veterans Hospital Aug 29 after a long period of hospitalizations. his death stemmed from an acute urinary infection. His wife Gracie and all seven children were at his bedside.
