In Greensburg a 25-year-old housemaid, Jessie Hankey, prepared to defend herself on charges she poisoned a 14-day-old employer's child. Prosecutors allege Hankey confessed to poisoning under pressure from Kenneth Wagner, who faces separate murder charges. Jurors were questioned on the death penalty.

Mrs Mabry Young Betr of Vandergrift dies after long illness at her daughter home. She was born June 17 1861 near Elderton and survived by two daughters, three sons, a brother, and several grandchildren. Funeral at McCullough home with Rev H A Bruder. burial Apollo cemetery. George Samuel Garvin of Wilkinsburg dies at 6 am in Walkinshaw home near Millwood of acute indigestion. He had visited his daughter and grandchildren recently. Born Feb 18 1858 in Corica, he built wagons then managed Brookville Wagon Works and Parr Wagon Works before retirement, tracing Revolutionary ancestry.
Madrid braces under renewed rebel threat as government defenses strengthen. Civil war reports cite air raids and bombings on Seville, Cordoba, and Granada while Madrid adds anti-aircraft guns and detectors atop tall buildings. Harrisburg Sept 2 Pennsylvania will receive 45 million dollars for unemployment relief September 28 through notes repaid from taxes levied by a special legislative session. Dougherty Cochran bought the entire issue at 99.52 per 100 with 112 percent interest, retiring May 31, 1937 along with 50 million in tax anticipation notes sold last year.
The timing of consolidation of local financial branches to remove the local office has been fixed. Indiana will receive relief checks from Altoona, Jefferson from Erie, and Armstrong from Pittsburgh after consolidation. Staff are expected to transfer to those offices, while the administrative relief investigation unit under David Hall Blair remains in touch with the three county relief matters.
