Willard Home Heavily Damaged By Fire In Indiana County
A fire of undetermined origin heavily damaged the 60 year old Willard Home in Getty Heights near Saltsburg Road. The blaze began in the basement and spread to a two story structure housing several county programs. About 80 employees were affected as offices were evacuated and records salvaged. Fire units from Indiana and Homer City assisted, civil defense kept an all night vigil. No injuries reported.

FBI Director Kelley should be fired over gifts
A Justice Department probe into charges against FBI officials recommends firing FBI Director Clarence M. Kelley for accepting gifts from subordinates. The recommendations, one for dismissal and another for public reprimand, were given to Attorney General Edward Levi, who is on vacation and has not acted. Kelley acknowledged receiving Christmas and anniversary gifts from staff and offered restitution for items not clearly permitted by law. He also said investigators were shown his FBI office’s drapery valances installed after his 1973 move to Bethesda Maryland.

Harness Racing Kicks Off Four Day Indiana County Fair Program
The Indiana County Fair opens its four day harness racing program tonight at 7 30 p m on the half mile oval with expectations for a new track record. Entries are strong across races and continue Friday night Thursday and Saturday afternoon. A grandstand fiddlers show is at 6 30 p m before races and events include the Junior Market Steer Show and 4 HFFA Junior Horse Show. Last night 25 high school bands performed with 2 500 musicians joining in an arrangement of Colonial March and Uhunde tur conducted by Bruna Pitio. Tomorrow 3 30 p m features the Grand Cavalcade of Livestock after the racing program.

Exploding Fuel Tanks Kill Three in Alabama
In Gadsden Alabama a gasoline tanker at a service station sparked a fire then underground tanks exploded. Fire Chief said two firefighters were killed and 24 injured as flames rose hundreds of feet, destroying the station and a nearby trailer home. Investigators determined the cause of the fuel tank explosion.
