Band Night Delights County Fairgoers at Indiana County Fair
Indiana County Fair draws large crowds for band night with 20 bands from eight counties. Spectators enjoy marshal music on the racetrack and combined performances of In vercargill and The New Colonial. Racing, livestock showcases, sheep dog demos, square dancing, a grand dairy and beef cavalcade, junior livestock sale, tractor pull, pet show, demolition derby, and star acts including Zeppes aerial, Archie Campbell and Bill Anderson, and the Po Boys fill the schedule through Friday with Frankie’s Amusements on the midway.

truckers protest traffic near Conemaugh Generating Station
More than 100 coal truckers halted traffic on Route 32008 near Huff and Seward, demanding road repairs. They gathered north of the Route 56 intersection and urged drivers to stop transporting coal to the plant, citing deteriorating macadam and large potholes. Policeman Shot in Pittsburgh Hill District
An unidentified officer was shot at a precinct station in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Police sealed off a four block area as a crowd of several hundred gathered outside. The injured officer was transported to Mercy Hospital. condition not released.

Ribbon-Cutting Opens Indiana Bypass Projects Friday
A Friday ceremony will mark the opening of the Route 119 bypass and part of Indiana Route 422 bypass including their intersections. Main speaker is Jacob Kassab, PennDot secretary. guests include Rep. John P. Saylor, Sen. Patrick Stapleton, Rep. William Shane, and Rep. C. Doyle Steele among others. Indiana University of Pennsylvania planner Isadora Lengler will preside. program features music by the Indiana Area High School Band and a caravan tour of new projects. A luncheon will follow at the ribbon cutting site. The bypasses total 21.5 miles with a construction cost of 45.3 million dollars.

Firemen recovered the body of Joseph B. Baer 23 of Republic from Keystone State Park lake after nearly 24 hours of searching Baer drowned while sailing with friends Monday Baer dove into the water and later surfaced one companion dove in to help Baer but he vanished and was later found in the lake.
