His athletic prominence, especially in football, is noted. Edwin Lutier and Clara Myers tied in Huntingdon West Virginia, with Lutier visiting his former tutor Gilby. Under the direction of Prof Ernest Work fire drills were conducted in the Indi- 20a school. The Second ward building was emptied in one minute and the Third ward school in eight seconds.

William H Taft campaigned across Brooklyn and Connecticut on his live visit. He urged that Bryan's election would bring hard times while a Republican victory would restore confidence. Taft spoke to Jewish audiences at Metropolitan Sanger Hall and in other venues, aided by Secretary Straus who introduced him.
