Mrs. David McCracken died at her daughter Mrs. Clara Bartlebaugh’s home near Hooverhurst on Sunday evening after two years of suffering. Aged 77 years 1 month 14 days she leaves a husband two daughters and five sons preceded her in death. Funeral services were by Rev Fingley at Brickle Church Wednesday afternoon with interment in Rowley Cemetery.
The engine of the New York New Haven and Hartford train No. 32 turned over near Saybrook bridge in New London on October 3. Switches had been tampered with and bolts removed, suggesting an attempted wreck. No injuries reported. A baggage car held two race horses worth $10,000 bound for the Brockton fair.
Burglars entered the First National Bank at Dayton on Friday night using acetylene torches to open the outer vault and steal about 700 dollars in silver and a bag of 600 dollars meant for shipment plus 100 dollars in change. The big safe contained reserve funds and depositor securities largely untouched. Entry was made by jimming a window in the director's room and the burglars possibly escaped by car.
In Trans Caucasia near the Caspian Sea thousands of casualties are reported in a clash between Bolshevik troops and Moslems at Baku. The Azerbaijan Information Bureau issued the statement, not confirmed by official sources. Moslems hoisted Independence or death banners before Reds bombarded the city, which later retreated to save it from further damage.

Halifax Nova Scotia Oct 3 grave fears are entertained that the Norwegian freighter Karen Rogenaes, 4509 tons, has gone down in a hurricane sweeping the Straits of Belle Isle. The ship was reported aground off Point Ferrall Saturday morning and disappeared when Orthia arrived for aid. The storm raged at 90 miles per hour with heavy damage to small craft. Karen Rogenaes had cleared from Montreal for Skien Norway and was formerly Noord Brabant.
Mrs. Thomas W. Simpson of Chestnut street received a telegram confirming the body of her son Lieut. Charles W. Singp aun, Company F, One Hundred and Tenth Infantry, was expected to arrive in Hoboken, New Jersey around October 6. The message noted official arrangements for the soldier's remains.
Dr. W. E. Rodaon of North Sixth Street travels to Philadelphia as a delegate from the Indiana County Medical Society for the annual convention of the State Medical Association.
Reno's new chain gang at the city jail, led by Al Pfeffer, began operation. The "comebacks" are allowed to loaf after meeting a work limit, prompting faster cleanup of back streets and alleys. Inmates who work receive three meals a day, while non workers get two. Police chief Kirkley plans more tasks once cleanup is finished.
Mrs James Heilbrun enjoyed a delightful surprise at home in Ernest Saturday night. Several friends gathered unexpectedly to celebrate her birthday with games and laughter. A luncheon followed as guests presented charming gifts and wished her many more pleasant birthdays.
