Punxs'y Man Dies From Wrong Blood Transfusion

Wallace Jordan, 64, of Oliveburg Punxsutawney RD 5, died Oct 5 in Altoona Hospital from an accidental transfusion of type A blood instead of his type O positive. Transfusion occurred during surgery after a head injury from a mine accident near DuBois. Jordan, a Benjamin Coal Company employee, had been transferred from DuBois Hospital to Altoona for surgery on Oct 3.

Bell seeks record general rate rise from Pennsylvania PUC

Bell of Pennsylvania plans to ask the Public Utility Commission for a record general rate increase before year end, after a prior $44.7 million hike was withdrawn amid opposition. Spokesman Robert Bridgee said the request will likely be the largest the company has ever filed, covering wages, inflation, and operating costs. Bell serves about 3.6 million customers, 80 percent of Pennsylvanian telephone users, with 57 other carriers operating in the state. Closed Mine Shuts 400 Miners in Cambria County
