Pittsburgh AP University of Pittsburgh scientist Dr Viken Sassount says girls are more likely to inherit pronounced features from parents than boys. He reports lower jaw shape shows stronger heredity, with about 12 percent of children defying parental trace.
London reports show conservatives upbeat while socialists and communists criticize. Pravda branded Nixon the big business candidate amid war and peace questions. Asia fear and cautious approval mix, with anti Communist leaders welcoming his hawkish stance. Formosa and Thailand voiced support, while Japan echoed expectations Nixon would urge Asia to bear greater defense duties.
Chicago mayor Richard J. Daley warns that township clerks and others may have unlawfully shifted votes as the official Cook County canvass begins. With 95 percent of precincts reported, Nixon leads Humphrey in Illinois by about 135,502 votes. Daley notes delays in western suburbs and says observers reported irregularities and potentially interesting figures when president and governor tallies are completed.
A light plane attempting a landing in Allentown Pennsylvania crashed about two miles short of the runway killing at least one person. The craft was en route from Burlington County New Jersey to Toledo Ohio and radioed trouble before burning on a riverbank near Jordan Park. Fire crews fought the blaze as vegetation and trees caught fire.
State police assigned to the Indiana substation released October activity figures. Officers made 192 traffic arrests and 16 criminal arrests, investigated 72 traffic accidents including two hit and run incidents, issued 360 warning cards for faulty equipment, and investigated 59 criminal complaints.
AP reports Johnson proposes a ten year Ocean Development Decade starting 1970 to promote peaceful uses of the sea floor. A 125 nation committee is set to approve resolutions backing peaceful seabed development, pollution limits, and a coordinated scientific program led by the International Oceanographic Commission.

The 1968 Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania Division of the American Cancer Society in Lancaster focused on how a changing world affects cancer work. Indiana County Unit was represented by Mrs. J. O. Mack executive director, Miss Muariha Russell secretary to the board of directors, and Jack F. Murley vice president.
In Bloomfield Connecticut a group of fifth graders used voting machines in the town clerk's office during a mock election. Third party candidate George C Wallace received one vote. A girl voter confessed she pulled the Wallace lever because she could reach only the lowest lever.
In Minneapolis observers float a Humphrey return to the U S Senate after his failed presidential bid. Eugene McCarthy says he will not seek re election, clearing a path for Humphrey while Minnesota voters split along party lines in a state with GOP control.
In Prague a crowd of pro Soviet Czechoslovaks shouted support for the Soviet Union at a ceremony marking the Bolshevik Revolution anniversary. Hard liners grabbed Dubcek and Cermnik, while reform backers later removed three large red banners from the Ministry of Foreign Trade, chanting tear it down as police cleared the area.
Barbara Ann Bailey and Jo Ann Growney both of Indiana were approved by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents to take graduate assistant appointments for 1965-69. Two hundred such appointments were confirmed, with assistants serving as teachers and researchers across all departments and colleges.
CHURCHVILLE Pa AP A light plane crashed in Northampt on Township killing at least three persons. The twin engine Piper Apache was in radio contact before the crash coming from Pinstown NJ. Parts of the wreckage were scattered on the street and a body strapped in a chair landed on a house roof. Witnesses described a near vertical dive in rain and a flaming wreckage that scorched a nearby house. Unclear engine noise reported by residents.
At a Red Square ceremony marking 51 years since the Bolshevik Revolution Soviet Defense Minister Andrei Grechko omitted references to Vietnam and the U.S. presidential election. He spoke against imperialists in general and warned of tensions possibly triggering a new world war. NATO ambassadors boycotted the event over Czechoslovakia invasion.
Viet casualties rose slightly in the week before a halt in bombing North Vietnam, with 150 Americans killed in action during Oct 27 to Nov 2. The halt may not curb U S losses as forces push south to seek the enemy. South Vietnamese deaths rose to 129, while U S public and allied statements emphasized continuing operations despite the pause.
Two Chicago area transients, Paul Robert Ferguson aged 22 and his 17 year old brother Thomas Scott Ferguson, were arrested in Bell Gardens on suspicion of murdering silent film star Ramon No varro. Police said after reviewing physical evidence they would seek indictments.

In Taipei Formosa three couples were fined the equivalent of 2.25 dollars per person after being found kissing in a coffee house. The charge cited was immoral behaviour in public.
George C. Wallace returns to Barbour County to mourn Chauncey Sparks, former Alabama governor and early mentor who hired him as a legislative page and later as an assistant attorney general. Wallace plans to rest at his Clayton home and focus on practicing law, with no immediate political plans.
