NEW YORK November 7 The sharp drop in bank stock prices over the past two weeks may jeopardize the proposed merger of the Corn Exchange Bank with National City Bank or require revisions in the merger plans. The plan called for four shares of City stock for five shares of Corn Exchange when City stock traded at $500 and Corn Exchange at $400. National City offered to purchase any Corn Exchange shares not converted into City Bank stock at $360 each. On the eve of consummation Corn Exchange Bank stock trades at $200 while National City is $300, about half the October market values.
INS reports October postal receipts in 50 cities totaled 36,742,948.67 dollars, up 4.52 percent from a year ago, with Dayton and Rochester leading gains at 1804 and 47.57 percent, while Fort Worth 15.98, Memphis 16.85, and Hartford 11.30 percent. Miss Catherine Croswell Perry, Boston born and descendant of Commodore Perry, is appointed missionary teacher at Kobe College Japan. Her photo ran in several papers as she declared she comes to Japan as an ambassador of goodwill and hopes to be warmly received. She is a 1921 Emerson College graduate supported by the church in Pittsburg.
Charles A. Kidder aged 72 died at his daughter Mrs R T Malley’s Greensburg home on Wednesday afternoon from a complication of diseases. He is survived by his daughter and two sons Harry J Kidder of Philadelphia and William C Kidder of Derry. Funeral at 2:30 Friday at the Malley home with Rev J D Good in charge. Interment in Union Cemetery. Kidder had long resided in Greensburg.
