Blairsville held its annual Halloween celebration last night under the Young Men's Volunteer Fire Company. Thousands of residents and visitors filled Market street from 7 to 9 p.m. to view the mummers parade led by the fire company drum corps. The costumes were numerous and inventive, making judging for merchandise prizes difficult. Perfect weather and active traffic control by firemen and police produced a smooth, incident-free event.
In Hot Springs Virginia on November 1, the Investment Bankers Association of America wrapped a quiet convention after a week of speeches and committee readings. Samuel Yakowitz recounts a Pittsburgh episode where a holdup man stole four pairs of shoes and twenty dollars of merchandise while drawing a gun. Yakowitz says he grabbed the robber’s gun, chased him, and fired as the thief fled, leaving behind the shoes.

The journey uses the German steamer Westfalen anchored along the route to assist refueling and launch with a catapult after refueling before joining the regular South American air service.

Clyde E. Mack of Derry Pennsylvania, 48, assistant chief of the Derry volunteer fire department, died at Columbia Hospital Wilkinsburg from injuries suffered when he fell under a freight train in the Pit Cairn yards Sunday. Doctors planned amputation but he died after three blood transfusions from volunteers failed to save him.

State trooper Joseph C G McCune attached to Ebensburg substation suffered a severe left foot injury and possible amputation after a collision on William Penn Highway near Good’s Gommera last evening. He was taken to Johnstown Hospital by a bakery employee who rushed him to care, as surgeons assessed the extent of damage and potential amputation over the coming days. Patrolman McCune, 20, of Uniontown, has served in the Whitinsburg area since April.
Funeral services were held today for Banle B. Fox, national president of the Clover Farm Stores Corporation, who died late yesterday after a two week illness. Fox, also president of stores in Charleroi and Uniontown, had just returned from Washington where he advised National Recovery Administrator Hugh S. Johnson on retail and grocery codes. Death was due to a liver complaint aggravated by four days of hiccoughing.

In a federal suit filed in Pittsburgh, the United States alleges Pittsburgh Coal Company and its Montour Railroad violated federal anti trust law. The government seeks to restrain interstate coal transport except for railroad use and accuses the railroad of paying inflated prices to its parent for locomotive coal. It claims about 4 million tons of coal were moved annually at unfair rates in the last three years. The coal was mined at Pittsburgh Coal Company pits. The suit notes the railroad’s capital stock at 102000 shares with 88 shares outstanding.
