May 29 dispatch from London cites Citta Di Milano captain who believes Italia made a safe forced landing at Amsterdam Island near Magdalena Bay. Flooded by ice and fog, a search party will be sent with half the crew by dog sled to reach the island, guided by an experienced seal hunter.
The State Health Commission from Harrisburg will visit Indiana June 4 6 6 and 7 with two physicians two dental hygienists and several nurses to examine children birth to 5 years old. Examinations run 1 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday at Indiana High School with parents or guardians present. Mothers will be advised of any defects and a list of findings sent to each family physician.
Governor John Fisher will preside at the Gettysburg Memorial Day exercises in the National Cemetery Gettysburg tomorrow. President Coolidge is expected to address the crowd as the principal speaker, a first since Lincoln. The event will be broadcast to millions via the Associated Stations Blue Network.
In Pittsburgh area coverage, organizers prep for the 928th national balloon race at Bettis Field in McKeesport. Fourteen pilots finish final inspections as weather forecasts await clearance. The State Highway Department will pave and connect with North Fifth Street improvements near Chevy Chase. Borough to maintain 18 feet of Fifth Street, with 18 feet concrete road funded or built by the borough and turned to the state. County to share half the cost of Fourth Street paving.
Kiwanis Club heard four Civil War veterans including John O Neal and W B Stahl share greetings and reminiscences during Memorial Night with patriotic music. Guest speaker Harry S Lydic of Two Lick Gardens spoke of past days and Memorial Day amid travels and reading. Rotary Club featured Dr William M Bav yidson, Pittsburgh schools superintendent, as dinner speaker after state teachers college exercises.
May 28 William J Meyers, aged 58, an employee of the C RB C Corp, died Sunday after about ten days with influenza. Born in Fisher Clavion county he came to Rossiter two years ago. He was a member of the M BE Church. Survived by his widow a daughter Mrs Harry Hodge of Rossilly and a son Davis at home.
Kilmer Smathers, a local musician from Indiana High School, leaves for Cumberland Maryland to join the Peck Mills orchestra for the summer. A Creekside dance is set for Wednesday evening May 30 with square dancing only, sponsored by Creekside Volunteer Fire Co.
In Toledo Ohio a manhunt erupted after seven year old Dorothy Sielagowski was found slain on her grandparents porch. The child was abducted from her bed and sexually assaulted before death by strangulation. Police linked the case to a prior Youngstown disappearance.
American troops in uniform marched up the Champs Elysees in Paris, a 200 soldier and 12 officer detachment of Pennsylvania troops in the Twentieth division. Kenneth McJunkin of Co F, 110th Regiment, represented the local unit. They laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier and deposited the Pennsylvania medal, then visited the American Cathedral cloister. The group heads to Fismes for a memorial bridge dedication over the River Wesley with General Price speaking, and Mayor Harry A. Mackey of Philadelphia to speak at Romagne on Wednesday.
Chief of Police George O Connell and assistants Edward Allen and Paul Conners announce a crackdown on speeding on Nath Street and Wayne Avenue. Violators may be arrested and fined under borough motor laws.

Two of the five New Jersey women poisoned by radium while working for United States Radium in Orange volunteer for scientific tests to seek a cure. Katherine Schaub and Edna Hussman say they will follow physician Dr. Humphries, under Orange Orthopaedic Hospital care. Damages totaling 1.25 million dollars against the company, filed by Schaub Hussman and three others, are set for trial before Supreme Court Justice Mountain in Newark.
In Detroit on May 29, twelve year old Joseph Fieri is held in a juvenile detention home after shooting and killing his father Samuel, 33, in a violent act triggered by years of beating endured by his mother Virginia, 27. Police report the boy declared he would do it again if his step-mother tried to intervene.
Simon Evans aged 81, longtime Blairsville resident, died yesterday at his daughter’s Johnstown home from complications of diseases. Born February 24, 1847 in Breezewood, Pa, he married Katherine Snowden in 1868. He belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church and Bedford lodge, IOOF for 56 years, survived by two sons, two daughters, and two wives.
Edgar Wilson son of Mr and Mrs Wagene Wilson of Lown has been notified of selection for membership in The League of Curtis Salesmen, an honor organization by The Curtis Publishing Co. for boys who sell its publications. Admittance depends on regular school attendance and efficient service to customers. He plans to advance to the next degree.
Indiana High School students and the Pitt Orchestra broadcast on WCOAE Pittsburgh yesterday. The orchestra under Fred Ringrose entertained listeners with fine numbers and brought pride to the school as a promising future unfolds. Roller skating at Campbells Air Park Decoration Day.
