Platt of Detroit stated that management has the initial responsibility to assign jobs and allocate work.
Harrisburg AP reports a low bid of 5477 for roof repairs at the State Highway Department building in East Rochester beget a walkout. Earl Neidig Hartis submitted the bid, claim breach of a no strike clause in the labor contract. employees who participated face possible discipline.
Tachikawa, Japan AP relief crowds greet Ex Corp Masashi Ito and Pfc Bunzo Minagawa as WWII ends for them after 16 years hiding in Guam forests. At base near Tokyo they arrive in American suits, amid 1000 locals and 150 reporters. Minagawa found May 12, Ito found two days later.
Four people were injured in a school bus crash reported at 4 25 p m. State Police also noted a separate side swipe on Route 80 about five miles north of Indiana. Blair Goss 53 Iselin driver skidded into an oncoming car driven by Thomas Diem 16 Clymer on a well maintained highway. Goss vehicle damage estimated at 150 dollars and 100 dollars for the Diem auto.
Nixon clashes with three Democrats over foreign policy and the summit failure. Kennedy Symington and Stevenson attack Nixon while Johnson urges support for Eisenhower. Delegates and primaries loom as Kennedy gains front runner status and Kefauver’s past wins are noted. Channel tunnel talk figures in the broader political maneuvering.
Pittsburgh AP report says Stuart Sutor of Miami was freed on 60000 dollar bond after conviction for attempting to fly stolen government weapons to Cuban rebels. He had been arrested in March by FBI and planned to serve as co pilot on a plane to the Philippines. Sutor’s prior release was on an 80000 dollar bond following his February conviction with five others.
A memorial service for the pastorate of Dr. William Merwin will be held at 11 o clock tomorrow at Elderton Presbyterian Church. The In Memoriam lists many names including Joseph Frantz Mary Schall Lienau John Snyder George McIntyre Katherine McIntyre Harvey Rearick and Richard Popp. Brass candle sticks and a cross will be presented in memory of World War II casualties Wilbur Henderson and Merle Schall with a cross from Major Alex Tait for the Indiana School Class of 1834.
A head-on crash on Route 219 about three miles south of Meyersdale Somerset County killed Wilma Maust 61 of Accident Md two men were seriously injured. The accident occurred Friday according to road Gazette notices.
In Yorktown Heights New York an IBM translator reads Russian and prints English in rough phrases. It processes about 40 words a minute now, with plans to reach 2400 and better grammar. It uses a 50 000 word stem dictionary on a glass disk and feeds punched tape to print translations.

James Montgomery Flagg famed American illustrator dies at 82 in Manhattan. Renowned for World War I recruiting poster of Uncle Sam and for vivid depictions of attractive women, he influenced early 20th century art and earned substantial income at his peak. He leaves second wife Dorothy Wadman and daughter Faith Ives. first wife Nellie McCormick had died in 1923.
A truck and two cars collided on Route 51 about three miles north of Perryopolis Friday night. One woman died, six others were injured including Mrs. Mary Voytilla 55 of Perryopolis and her daughter Joan Voytilla 26. None of the injuries were serious.
