United Spanish War Veterans Convene in Greensburg

The United Spanish War Veterans encampment meets in Greensburg from May 31 to June 2 with Major C. C. McLain of Indiana retiring as state commander. Activities include sessions at State Armory, receptions at High School Auditorium and Y M C A, a military parade, and the annual officer elections and installations.

Miners and Owners Renew Wage Pact Talks in Pa

Miners and operators representatives from central bituminous coal fields in Pennsylvania renewed efforts toward a new wage agreement. If no pact is reached today the conference may adjourn until Tuesday. A sub committee is studying terms while both sides remain hopeful of peace across negotiations.

Baccalaureate Services Planned Across Indiana Community

Tomorrow Indiana High School and State Teachers College hold baccalaureate ceremonies. The College event at the Ritz Theater features Rev. Alonzo Ray Petty of Philadelphia. the High School service in the auditorium at 7:00 p m with Rev. Roger Charnock delivering the sermon. Also noted are Sunday sermons across multiple churches, a Salvation Army gathering to Pittsburgh, and various congregational worship times and society meetings.

College Music and Commencement Week Schedule

Alumni meetings in College Chapel and Recreation Hall mark a week of events at the college. The Baccalaureate service is in the Ritz Theatre at eleven with prayers, anthems, and a keynote address by Dr. Bonsall. Commencement follows Tuesday at 10:30 with diplomas, then alumni dinner at 12:30 hosted by Thomas Sutton.

Coal Operators Demand Wage Agreement Negotiations

A coal operators association criticizes the United Mine Workers of America for not negotiating a wage agreement. It cites noncompetitive conditions in Central Pennsylvania and urges District No 2 to begin wage talks based on regional competitiveness and proper factors.

Joint Conference Sets Temporary Wage Plan for Mines

The Association reserves the right to act for its members and will continue the current wage rates and working conditions until the joint conference reconvenes in June. A new wage agreement will supersede the temporary terms after adjournment.

Lindbergh Fever Grips London Ahead of Visit

London prepares for Captain Charles A. Lindbergh with crowds planned for a May landing in Croydon. Railways and buses run extra services as newspapers publish his plans and 50 000 expected spectators gather to welcome the famed American aviator. Lindbergh to be greeted by two kings in four days

London May 2 Capt Charles A Lindbergh famed American aviator will be greeted by King Albert of Belgium and King George VI of England within four days. He is due Sunday evening near 6 o clock from Brussels at Croydon flying field where Ambassador Houghton and Sir Samuel Hoare will welcome him. He may view the derby from the Royal box Wednesday before flying back to continental Europe.

Memorial Day Observance Plans Across Indiana and County

Memorial Day observance will be held statewide and in the county with services at First Presbyterian Church in the morning led by Rev. Fre­derickt and a 7:30 p.m. theater program at the Indiana Theater with Prof. G. G. Hill as speaker. Memorial Park parade and service slated for 10:15 a.m., plus church ceremonies in Gackport at 2 p.m. Rev. Bolvin to preach. More than 200 comrades to be interred with garlands.

Susquehanna on a Rampage Strikes Harrisburg Area

The Susquehanna River surged to near flood proportions in Harrisburg district with water rising about a tenth of a foot per hour. Rockville and Duncannon reported water over river roads and a subway submerged in Duncannon. A second drowning victim, 40 year old John Fault of Stealton, fell from a bridge ledge into the swollen river.

Rescue saves boy from death under wagon in Turkey City

In Clarion Pennsylvania on May 23 Lee Meely of Knox acted fast to pull his son Curtis from a wagon rolling down an incline at Turkey City. The rescuer suffered both legs fractured while saving the child who had just recovered from a broken collar bone and injuries from a cow goring.
