In a United States circuit court case over sugar frauds, co defendant Charles KR Heike and others pleaded guilty after the government presented its case. Three minor employees Walker Voelker and Halligan admitted guilt while Heike kept close watch over records and operations, with letters showing involvement in misclassifying products and correcting weights to conceal frauds.
Columbus May 28 Glenn Curtiss aims from Albany to New York for a 10000 prize. Cromwell Dixon, Toledo Roy Knabenshue and others plan similar attempts with rail distance 143 miles. Readings recount a stormy course with cloud banks and public spectators along Battery Park.
Ten thousand spectators witnessed the Indianapolis speedway opener as records fell in the final 100 mile event. Aiken set a ten mile mark in eight national, Harroun in a Harmon beat the twenty mile record, and Louis Chevrolet in a Buick lowered the class world record with five miles in 4 47 07. Kinkead of Ic 2 National won the 100 mile race in 1 28 42 12, a new world record.

In Athens on May 28, famed Greek poet Pericles Tanapontos rode a horse toward Phaleron bay with a loaded revolver. The horse leaped the cliff and the poet shot himself, dying instantly. The cause remains unknown.

Boston May 28 James Connelly author of sea stories and other works has instructed lawyers in Washington to sue Assistant Attorney General Oscar Lawler of the Interior Department for slander. He cites Lawler remarks at Ballinger hearings calling him a writer of sea stories and a trampler of women and children to reach lifeboats. Damages likely around 50,000 and Connelly also sent a sworn statement to Congressman Jones of Kentucky about unfounded charges by a disgruntled steward who fled to Canada.
