The Joseph Holmes Safety Council of Indiana County won the state safer banner for the third time in as many years at a Hotel Homer banquet in Homer City. J. J. Forbes praised early accident prevention efforts in Indiana County and noted George Groves, now ill in Pittsburgh, helped found the skeleton council in 1926. Forbes cited 20 months without a major mining accident and 593 fatalities in 1949 as a record safety year. Continued on age Eight.

The Presbyterian Home for the Aged in Oakmont Pennsylvania will be turned over to the Board of Managers by the contractors on Saturday May 27. An open house is planned that afternoon from two to five o'clock. The Indiana Presbyterian Church furnished a second floor living room. The new facility sits beside the Oakmont Country Club and will accommodate one hundred guests.

Supreme Court Reverses Verdict in Highway Damage Suit
Harrisburg May 26 A Lycoming County court decision was reversed by the State Supreme Court which ordered a new trial in a case over highway damage from a burning gasoline filled Montour Transit Co truck. The court held the lower court erred in excluding evidence showing the blaze caused by operator negligence.

Double Tank Trailer Ripped Open Trapping Passengers

District Two UMW Moves Headquarters to Ebensburg
CLEARFIELD Pa May 26 The District Two Headquarters of the United Mine Workers will move to Ebensburg tomorrow. The union bought a three story brick building in Cambria County and will use two floors for district offices and the Compensation Department. District President James Marks said Cambria County has the most members in the district and is the largest coal producing area. He will keep living in DuBois.

Collision on South Sixth Street Injures Doctor Driver
