Blairsville School Board Increases Taxes At Special Meeting
Blairsville officials approved a budget raise for 1948-49 and adopted a mercantile tax alongside higher property taxes. The per capita levy doubles from five to ten dollars, while property tax moves to 23 mills with 18 for budget needs and four for sinking fund. A mercantile levy of 1 1/6 mills on retail and 3/4 mill on wholesale will fund the added revenue. The Blairsville Board of Trade supports the plan. Also approved were 1,500 new stadium bleachers and the resignation of high school teacher Craig Swauger to join Indiana High School next year.

Missing Pilot Sought From Camden After Plane Vanishes
A search stretched across three states for 24 year old pilot Albert Hannum of Laurel Springs New Jersey after his small plane disappeared shortly after takeoff from a field near Camden. Oil Struck In Boy's Stomach

Seven Million for Synthetic Fuel Program Cut Approved
Washington May 26 The House Appropriations Committee today recommended 7,250,000 for synthetic liquid fuels for the year starting July 1, a 2,500,000 reduction from budget bureau request. The panel said carryover funds may keep the program running and will consider further requests if needed. The Bureau of Mines runs experiments in several plants to produce fuels from coal oil shales and other sources, with over 24,000,000 already appropriated. The committee also urged 300,000 for coal investigations, 225,000 above this year but 850,000 below the budget request.

GM Wage Agreement Studied
