Harrisburg May 28 The Board of Pardons rejected mercy pleas from Mrs Carpenter's parents and more than a thousand petitioners for Wendell Forrest Bowers who must die in Pennsylvania's electric chair June 13 for killing 37 year old widow Wilma V Carpenter in her Montgomery County home after his release from Huntingdon Industrial School. Bowers' slayer's attorney Elmer L Menges cited home life as a factor. Logue noted many petitions were easy to sign.

Canning Inspection Service Is Extended

State inspection and grading of canning products will be provided by the Bureau of Markets, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, at twenty one new points this year for the state's rapidly growing cannery industry. Last year the service was furnished at 35 points. Canning products from Pennsylvania farms to be graded and inspected include apples, cherries, asparagus, green beans, string beans, corn, peas, cabbage, berries and tomatoes.
