Indiana County Republican leaders said Paul W. Jeffries will not seek reelection as party chairman at the June reorganizational session. Jeffries, county sheriff for 12 years and chair for four, called his bid definitely over. The committee will meet June 10 at the courthouse to reorganize for two years. Jeffries has led Republicans to major wins, including Arthur McGonigle’s gubernatorial vote and last year’s county commissioners’ landslide.

He allegedly killed his wife Vera Rose 47 and neighbor Harold Dupont 43, then wounded himself. Two daughters alerted a brother who notified police.
